My own crocheted cupcake with sewn silver beads on top, a re-creation of the cake Rose gives the Doctor at the end of this episode. Making sweets with yarn is amusing, but there's a serious drawback -- it makes me want real cake.

This week is also the one-year anniversary of crafty_tardis !  Here are two icons for you to join in on the merriment. I know they're plain - I haven't made more than a few icons before. Photo source is time-and-space.co.uk. (Please, no hotlinking.)

Cake pattern
Follow the instructions for the cupcake bottom here.

I used size E hook.

Lid
With yellow yarn
Rounds 1-5: Same as Rounds 1-5 for cupcake bottom.
Round 6: (Sc 4, inc) x 6. (36 sts)
Finish off leaving 14" tail.

Frosting
With glossy white yarn
Round 1: Start with a magic loop, sc 4.
Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (8 sts)
Rounds 3-4: Vary sts with sc, hdc, dc, and trc to create the wobbly spread of the frosting.
Finish off leaving 12" tail.

Use 12 sterling silver round beads at least 3mm and sew on using invisible thread or monofilament for beading.
